PEST INSPECTIONS

Clients will quiet often contact our office and request a pest inspection. There are two main services that are generally referred to as pest inspections. In this Blog we are going to explain what the two services are, what they involve, why they are needed and pest inspection cost.

The first service referred to as a Pest Inspection is a or Visual Termite Inspection or Timber Pest Inspection. Let’s start with the Visual Termite Inspection which involves visual inspection of the readily accessible areas of a home, building or structure for evidence of termites. This evidence may include Termite activity, termite workings/damage and areas that are conducive to termites. All Visual Termite Inspections should be completed in line with the Australian Standards 3660.2.2017 Termite management, Part 2: In and around existing buildings and structures. A Visual Termite Inspection is usually completed on an annual basis, as standard maintenance of the property.

Timber pest inspection

Similar to a Visual Termite Inspection, A Timber Pest Inspection is a visual inspection of the readily accessible areas of a home for evidence of termites. In addition, the technicians are also looking for evidence of dry wood termites, borer, or wood decay. A Timber Pest Inspection is usually obtained as part of the purchase or sale of a property. It is also called a Building & Pest Inspection. The Building part of the inspection is completed by a licenced Building Inspector.

During both types of inspections, the inspector will visually inspect all accessible areas of the interior and exterior of the home or building including, the roof void and/or sub-floor areas, providing they can be accessed. In addition to visually inspecting the property, the technician will use a series of techniques including tapping, to determine if any termites are present. Multipests technicians also use Thermal Imaging Cameras throughout the inspection. Thermal imaging cameras are used to identify heat spots and sometimes abnormalities, within the walls of the house. They do not allow the technician x-ray vision, however, are useful in the location of termite’s nests and workings where active termites are present. The use of thermal imaging cameras is not requirement under the Australian Standards, however, an added valued process we choose to undertake to provide the highest quality of service to our clients.

In addition, the technician will also use a moisture meter in the wet areas within the property. These are the areas within the house where water is fed in, such as the bathrooms, laundry, and kitchen. The moisture meters allow the technician to identify possible leaks, resulting in moisture behind the walls, which can in turn encourage termites into the property.

Both the Visual Termite Inspection & Timber Pest Inspection should be carried out by a Qualified Timber Pest Inspector who holds current licence issued by the Queensland Government.

The pest inspection cost associated with a Termite Inspection or Timber Pest Inspection is dependent on the size of the property that is being inspected. Prices range from $145 to $275 including GST.

The second service referred to commonly as a pest inspection is a General Pest Management Treatment or Pest Control.  A General Pest Treatment targets the pests commonly found in domestic homes including ants, cockroaches, spiders & silverfish. These pests reside in the crooks and crannies around our homes, are not only an annoyance but can also harbour germs and disease.

Like the Termite Inspection, a pest control is carried out to all readily accessible internal and external areas of a property, including the subfloor and roof void. The treatment also covers all structures on the property including sheds, pool areas, gazebos, carports and patios.
